Indications
Etoricoxib is indicated for the relief of pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis & other chronic musculoskeletal disorders, acute gout, dysmenorrhea and following dental surgery.

Pharmacology
Etoricoxib is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It has anti-inflammatory, analgesic and antipyretic activities. Etoricoxib is a selective cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) inhibitor.
Dosage & Administration
For adult and adolescent over 16 years, in osteoarthritis, chronic musculoskeletal disorders & dysmenorrhea, the recommended dose of Etoricoxib is 60 mg once daily. In rheumatoid arthritis, this dose is 90 mg once daily and in pain following dental surgery & acute gout, this dose is 120 mg once daily.
Interaction
Oral anticoagulants, Diuretics and ACE inhibitors, Acetylsalicylic acid, Cyclosporin, Lithium, Methotrexate, Oral contraceptives, Prednisone/Prednisolone, Digoxin, Ethinyl estradiol drugs metabolized by CYP isoenzymes, Ketoconazole, Rifampicin and antacids have interaction with Etoricoxib.
Contraindications
It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component of this product, patients with inflammatory bowel disease and severe congestive heart failure.
Side Effects
Side effects of Etoricoxib includes dry mouth, taste disturbance, mouth ulcer, flatulence, constipation, appetite and weight change, chest pain, fatigue, paraesthesia, influenza-like syndrome & myalgia.
Pregnancy & Lactation
Etoricoxib should be avoided in late pregnancy because it may cause premature closure of the ductus arteriosus. As it is excreted in breast milk, use of Etoricoxib should be avoided during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings
In patients with advanced renal disease, treatment with Etoricoxib is not recommended. If therapy is required, close monitoring of the patient’s renal function is required. Caution should also be required when initiating treatment with Etoricoxib in patients with considerable dehydration. The possibility of fluid retention, edema or hypertension should be taken into consideration when Etoricoxib is used in patients with pre-existing edema, hypertension or heart failure. Etoricoxib should be used with caution in patients who have previously experienced acute asthmatic attacks, urticaria or rhinitis, which were precipitated by salicylates or non-selective cyclooxygenase inhibitors. Caution should also be taken in patients with a prior history of gastric perforation, ulcer & bleeding (PUBs) and patients older than 65 years of age.
Use in Special Populations
Safety and effectiveness of Etoricoxib in pediatric patients have not been established.
